Exports of manufactured goods, services and agricultural commodities to foreign countries are an extremely important part of Minnesota's economy, accounting for more than $31 billion in revenue annually and tens of thousands of jobs statewide.

2012 Export Reports

Annual Export Totals 2012
Minnesota's exports totaled $20.6 billion in 2012, up $246 million from the previous year. Six of Minnesota's top eight industries increased exports in 2012.

Fourth Quarter 2012
Manufacturing, mining and agricultural exports grew slightly (0.6 percent) to $5.1 billion in the fourth quarter of 2012. Manufactured exports alone, which accounted for $4.6 billion of the total, fell by 1.9 percent for the period. Download the Fourth Quarter Report.

Third Quarter 2012
Manufacturing, mining and agricultural exports in the third quarter reached a record $5.1 billion, up 1 percent from the same period a year ago. Manufactured exports, which accounted for $4.6 billion the total, rose by nearly 2 percent, or about $79 million, which matched export growth for the nation as a whole. Second Quarter 2012
Manufacturing, mining and agricultural exports in the second quarter reached a record $5.4 billion, up 1.2 percent or $64 million from the same period a year ago. Manufactured exports, which accounted for $4.9 billion the total, rose by 3.4 percent., but grew at a much slower pace than the nation as a whole. Download the Second Quarter Report. 

First Quarter 2012
Minnesota's exports reached a record $4.9 billion in the first quarter of 2012, an increase of 2 percent or $116 million over the same period last year. Manufactured exports, which account for the lion's share of the total, grew at a much slower pace than the nation as a whole. Download the First Quarter Report.

2011 Export Reports

Annual Export Totals 2011
Minnesota's exports totaled $31.2 billion in 2011, up $200 million from the previous year. Total exports include manufacturing, services and agricultural industries.

Fourth Quarter 2011
Minnesota's total exports grew to $5.1 billion in the fourth quarter, an increase of 1.4 percent over the prior year. Manufactured exports were up almost 3 percent to $4.7 billion during the period. Download the Fourth Quarter Report.

Third Quarter 2011
Minnesota's total exports reached $5.1 billion in the third quarter, an increase of 4 percent over the previous year. For the manufacturing sector alone, the state's exports were up almost 5 percent to $4.6 billion. Download the Third Quarter Report.

Second Quarter 2011
Minnesota's exports reached a record $5.3 billion in the second quarter. For the manufacturing sector alone, Minnesota manufactured exports were up 10 percent to $4.7 billion in the second quarter of 2011, while U.S. manufactured exports increased 15 percent. Download the Second Quarter Report.

First Quarter 2011
Minnesota's exports reached a record $4.8 billion in the first quarter, up 13 percent from the previous year. The figure includes both manufactured exports and foreign sales from non-manufacturing industries such as agriculture and mining. Exports of services are not included in the total.
